In Broward County, a child's assigned public school is set by the home address, not by the city name or the ZIP code. The district publishes an official "Find My School" tool: you type an address and it shows the assigned elementary, middle and high school. If school assignment matters to your purchase, check the exact address with the district before you make an offer, and keep that check in your file. Rui Cunha, broker at Royal Star Corp in Coral Springs, can help you with the home search and the timeline, but the district decides assignments, and we do not rate, rank or recommend schools or neighborhoods.
Assignment is by address
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) assigns students to schools based on the family's primary residential address. The district's Find My School tool asks for the school year, the house number and street, and the 5-digit ZIP, and returns the assigned elementary, middle and high school. Tips from the district: choose the upcoming school year if you are registering for next fall, write numbered streets with the suffix (1st, not 1), and skip periods. If your address does not show up, the district asks you to email the full address to boundaries@browardschools.com, and its Demographics and Enrollment Planning department will look it up (BCPS).
The district's boundary maps give general information only. For a specific address, use the locator (BCPS).
How to verify an address before an offer
- Run the exact address in the locator for the school year your child will attend. Save a screenshot with the date.
- Do not rely on a listing, an ad or a neighbor. A listing's school information may be out of date or approximate. Confirm with the district.
- Ask the district directly if the address is new, if the lot is on a boundary, or if the tool shows no result.
- Put your timing in the contract. If assignment is a deciding factor, talk to Rui and your attorney about when the check happens relative to your inspection and financing deadlines.
- Re-check at registration. Assignments are tied to the school year, and the district can change them.
Boundaries can change
The assigned school is not guaranteed forever. The district can adjust attendance boundaries, and the locator asks for a specific school year for that reason. A home you buy today could be assigned to a different school in a later year. Follow district announcements and check the locator again before each registration.
Magnet, choice and charter options
An assigned school is not the only option:
- School Choice. Families can apply to magnet programs, Nova schools and reassignments through the district's yearly application window. Most seats are awarded by computerized random selection, some middle and high school magnets have academic criteria, and acceptance is not guaranteed. A child can always attend the assigned school. You can apply to all three choice options but to only one magnet program (BCPS School Choice). Magnet students who live more than 2 miles away may qualify for district busing within magnet transportation zones.
- Charter schools. Charters are public schools run independently and have their own application process, so contact each charter directly.
- Registration is separate. Being accepted to a magnet does not complete enrollment: you still register at the school.
Dates and rules change every year, so use the district's School Choice page.
Where to see official school grades
If you want performance data, go to the source rather than a real estate site. The Florida Department of Education publishes annual school grades and accountability reports for every public school. We do not rank schools, and we do not tell you where families "should" live. Visit schools, talk to the district, and decide what fits your child.
Broward places on this site
Broward is made up of many cities, and each is served by the same district. If you are comparing places, our pages on Weston and Parkland cover housing, HOAs and insurance, not school quality, and our office is in Coral Springs. Whatever place you choose, verify the specific address.

FAQ
How do I find the school assigned to a Broward address?
Use the district's official Find My School tool, enter the house number, street and ZIP for the right school year, and read the assigned elementary, middle and high school.
Can school boundaries change after I buy?
Yes. The district can adjust boundaries, so an assignment can change in a later school year. Check the locator again before each registration.
Can my child attend a school other than the assigned one?
Possibly. The district's School Choice process offers magnet programs, Nova schools and reassignments through a yearly application, with no guarantee of a seat. Charter schools have their own applications.
Where can I see Florida school grades?
On the Florida Department of Education's school grades page. We do not rank or recommend schools.
Does the home's city decide the school?
No. Assignment follows the specific address. Two homes in the same city can have different assigned schools, so check each address.
